Hair Woven Samples
Woven on an 8-harness floor loom.
These are study samples to test unconventional materials on a loom. All samples are inspired by the history and culture of hair.

Above: a variation of accessories that utilizes hair - inspired by Victorian mourning brooches encased with hair that was used to remember the deceased. All objects are to the scale of a real person. From top to the left (sunglasses, brooch, ring). The double-weave technique creates a pocket in the weave, leaving space for the hair to be enclosed between the two layers of weaving.

Hennin base woven with strips of velvet and attached weaving woven loosely to mimic a gauze fabric. 6" high.

Woven with velour and cotton strips to mimic voluminous hair. 7" length.

Shower stall sample shaped on the loom. Woven with metal inserts that allow the fabric to bend into a shower stall shape. 6" high.
